School Lunch Program SY 2009-2010

Students at the FIS are welcome to take part in the school lunch program. We are happy to offer an expanded program for this school year. In addition to the new vegetarian option with our hot lunch menu, we now have salad and a bagel bar.

Hot Lunch

Our hot lunch option will once again be provided on subsidized cost basis to the FIS by chefs de cuisine from the Siemens Restaurant Services. The hot lunch option is available on a per-semester basis and will consist of a hot main course and dessert. We have once again worked with our caterer to develop a nutritious menu. Students must choose either the international or vegetarian option. On some days, when the international meal for the day is vegetarian, there will only be one hot dish offered. A link to this month’s menu below will give an idea of the dishes to be offered over the year. The hot lunch option will cost 261€ per semester for Kindergarten/Elementary students and 287€ per semester for Middle/High School students. The difference in price takes into account the larger portions served in the Middle and High Schools.

Students may cancel the hot lunch option or join the program by completing the Hot Lunch Option Form or by giving notice in writing to lunch@the-fis.de by the fifteenth of the previous month. For example, if you wish to cancel or join the hot lunch effective 1st March, the request must be received by no later than 15th February. A reimbursement or invoice will be provided accordingly.

Salad & Bagel Bar

New for the FIS this school year, we are happy to announce the opening of our Salad and Bagel Bar, operating in the cafeteria on a voucher basis. Students or their parents may purchase vouchers at 4,00 € each per salad or 2,50 € each per bagel from the Receptionist. On the day students wish to have a salad or bagel for lunch, they simply make their “purchase” in the cafeteria with vouchers as appropriate.

We are currently offering fresh garden salad with one of the following toppings: tuna; feta cheese; prawn; ham and cheese; ham, cheese and egg, and bagels with a choice of the following toppings: wurst (cold sausage); cheese; wurst and cheese; smoked ham; tomato and mozzarella; salami. 

No money will be accepted in the cafeteria. An international or vegetarian meal in the Hot Lunch program cannot be substituted for a salad or bagel. Students who wish to have a salad or bagel on a given day instead of the hot lunch on offer that day can only ‘purchase’ them using vouchers. The hot lunch option still represents excellent value at around 3€ per day.
